Description:

The standard length for a marathon is 26.2 miles. The Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat will cover more than 100 times that distance. This durable, long lasting convertible car seat is one of the most functional car seats to ever hit the market. A little bit larger than other Britax Car Seats, the marathon is legendary for safety and comfort. The shell of the car seat is a little bit bulkier than others and parents should allow for about 31 inches of seat space when used rear facing. Some of the unique features on the Britax Marathon include a five point polyester harness with no tangle polyester webbing, which is certainly standard on most baby car seats. It also features built in lock-offs for the car's seat belts and a push button LATCH system with versa tether. This Britax Car Seat provides the most security in both forward and rear facing installations. Now, the Britax Convertible Car Seat has Expanded PolyStyrene to increase available shoulder width room. EPS foam also helps soften a blow to the head in collisions. Britax convertible car seats are equipped with their patented HUGS system. It is designed to better distribute webbing loads to reduce head movement and minimize the chance for the webbings edge to load on the child's neck. The Britax Marathon provides parents with an all around all-star car seat. However, it may be too large for some vehicles. For those looking for a smaller Britax Car Seat, the Britax Roundabout is a perfect choice. It is a little smaller than the Britax Marathon as it holds up to just 40 lbs.

Features:

Convertible, rear facing five to 35 pounds and forward facing from at least one year old and 20 pounds up to 65 pounds

Side Impact Protection distributes crash forces, shields from vehicle intrusion, and contains the head and body

Higher forward facing seat capacity allows children to remain harnessed up to 65 pounds

Tangle-free, five-point harness with four harness heights for a snug and secure fit

Premium push-button LATCH connectors for a quick, simple and tight installation

This is our second step in protecting the safety of our granddaughter. Both chairs are of high quality and work great. thanks

This is a great carseat and the video demonstration online was a BIG help in getting it installed by my sister and me instead of looking for professional help. My grandson will enjoy the seat for many years I'm sure. Thank you.

5Best carseat availableDec 31, 2008
We have owned this car seat for nearly five years and it is as good today as it was on day one. We have a Toyota minivan and there's only LATCH on one of the rear seats. This car seat installs easily on both the LATCH seat and the seat with the traditional seat belt. We also own an Evenflo Triumph (both were very highly rated in safety tests) and the Marathon is always our first choice if we have to move a car seat from one vehicle to the next. After all, if it's not installed properly it's not going to protect your child... and nobody likes messing with installing car seats. The Marathon is about as painless as it gets.

The Evenflo's straps are constantly twisted but the Marathon's always seem to be flat, just like they're supposed to be. It has little Velcro strips on the edges of the seat so when you're taking your child out you can stick the straps right there and not have to mess with trying to sort them out when you get back to the car.

It's easy to adjust the strap height when your child grows. My 6-yr-old daughter is at the highest setting and she's not even close to outgrowing this seat yet in terms of height or weight limitations.

The only issue we have had is that the belt tightening mechanism gets stuck occasionally. That's more likely because of spilled juice than a design flaw. :) We have the black and gray cover and it's really good at camouflaging any spills. It does get pretty hot in the summer, but we throw a light-colored towel over it if the van's going to be sitting out in the sun and that helps a lot. I wish there were a place to tuck the unused LATCH straps if you're using a traditional seat belt, but that's not enough for me to give this car seat any fewer than the 5 stars it deserves.

This was a GREAT investment. I wish we'd sucked it up and spent a little more money on another Marathon instead of going with an Evenflo the second time.

4Great seat but not for small carDec 29, 2008
First of all, this seat is very nice. It is super cozy and high quality craftmanship. My son is 8 months old and 22 lbs so he needed a rear facing seat but didn't want to buy a rear seat then seperate forward facing one in 4 months. It was easy to install for the most part and Britax has videos on their site which was nice.
Secondly, I have a 2003 2 door Accord. It is what it is and its the car I have. This car seat is big and I always keep the car seat in the middle back seat. I can see from my back window but if you plan to put this seat on either side of the back you may have issues sliding your seat back. For rear facing it is required to use the tether strap and anchor it on the floor somewhere that there will be a hook or seat bolted to the floor.
My car didnt have the floor hook so I used the strap and put it around the track of my driver side seat. My passenger front seat is not electric and that seat would not go back with that strap on. My driver side has electric seat so I can control how far back it goes. This is the only down fall, but it will be like this with any convertable seat.
Once my son can go forward facing this wont be an issue since I have 3 tether strap hooks on the back seat trunk area.
Before you buy, watch the video on Britax on how to install the strap. Otherwise, my son sleeps well in it and he is happy and content.

4Nice seat, difficult instructionsDec 29, 2008
The seat itself is very nice and fits relatively easily in our vehicles despite its overall seat size. The seat straps are harder to twist than others we have tried, but they do still twist. The instruction manual is not easy to read or understand and adjusting the straps for different sizes was cumbersome. Overall the safety features are what was important to us, and the other items can be overcome.
