Just a little difficultApr 29, 2008 I really love the look and feel of this seat, but there are a few glitches. I find it difficult in general to put my daughter in this seat. Once I set her in it, I have to reach under her to get the crotch buckle...it won't stay out because of the padding on it, so every time I put her in, I can't hold it out of the way. I wish I could remove the round pad over the buckle altogether, and I'm frustrated that I can't. I also find that the harnesses tangle a lot, and I'm constantly straightening them out and straightening the pads of them, too. Another thing that bothers me is that the buckles don't "click" when you put them in, so I'm always second guessing whether or not they're in right. I also have some trouble unbuckling, too, because they don't come out right away. I don't know. I like the seat for its looks and safety, but it's definitely not the easiest seat in the world to use.

Couldn't be happierSep 24, 2006 I am happy to say that I have have no trouble with my britax decathlon, whatsoever. I purchased this in place of an infant car seat for many reasons, and I am so glad I did. My son is only two and half months and would already be too long to fit the graco snugride (26 inches). I am a proud baby wearer and figured I would wear my baby while out and about anyway. I have no problem getting my son right back to sleep in a sling, sometimes he doesn't even wake. So if you are in the same position I was, go for the convertible car seat. You'll be happy you spent the few hundred in the beginning and not as an aftethought. I also use a baby jogger so travel systems weren't for me either.
I bought the decathlon instead of the marathon because I liked the colors better and the padding (especially since I used it from birth). The car seat is big but your baby will eventually grow and what will you do then? You'll be surprised how fast they grow. You could easily go through 3 car seats and that isn't cheap.
Yes, they are expensive but if you bought one from the get go, you could actually save money. Britax was the top pick for consumer reports in safety and that is what ultimately matters. I hope this helps others out there. If you plan on wearing your baby as an infant go with the convertible. I am so glad I did. Thank you Britax for making such wonderful car seats.

Update from previous review.Sep 12, 2006 I previously gave this seat an excellent review, and now I Take it all back. We had bought 2, one for each car. After using it for about a year and constantly having problems tighetning the straps, my husband was trying to tighten it and the entire plastic piece where the button is popped off as in another persons review. We contacted Britax and they told us to ship it to them to get fixed. Customer service was great about it.....until the other one broke a few months later. Same thing...we had to send it back to get fixed. Within a week the first one broke again!!! We now had NO carseat! I called Britax and explained the situation and said I no longer wanted the Decathlon model. We traded to the Marathon. However, Britax did not refund us any money, even though the Marathons are cheaper. THey said they were exchanging them as a "courtesy". Umm...it's a defective car seat! ANyway, we are MUCH happier with the Marathon, and when our son needs one he too will get a Marathon. Britax custimer support was very nice, but we were out a lot of time and $$ and didn't get refunded any of it. Don't buy this seat....you will pay in the long run.
FYI...Britax has recently recognized this issue and sent out parts to fix this issue. Glad to finally see they are acknowledging this.
can anyone tell me?Sep 04, 2006 i just started using this seat and i must admit i too cant tighten the straps the only way is to reach under the front side of the seat and pull the straps by hand then pull the front strap iam using it rear facing and it is really hard to get my hand under the front because the seat is in the way so can anyone tell me when i turn the seat front facing will this problem stop? will it tighten the way it is advertised to do (one gentle pull) or will i always be reaching under the seat?kinda outrages and unacceptable for a seat that cost approx 320.00 with tax and shipping britax tells me it will loosen up with time dose any one know if that is true?
Best carseat there is!!!!!!!!!Jun 20, 2006 I had heard that Britax was the best while I was pregnant. I had a very large baby adn he quickly outgrew his infant seat. After physically comparing the Decathalon & Marathon to other carseats, there simply was no comparison. The Britax seats are padded more than the others and are so easy to install and adjust. We bought a cheaper seat for my husbands car and it is so difficult to secure and changing the strap length is almost impossible. My son has never thrown a fit about going anywhere in the car and he loves being able to see out now that he is forward facing. Another great feature about this seat is the velcro on the straps. You may not think much about it but it makes putting him in the seat that much easier. I don't have to worry about the straps twisting. I know the price is higher but you are getting what you pay for: a safer & more comfortable seat.
